BENGALURU: A new task force committee has been constituted for comprehensive operation, monitoring and implementation of pothole closure under BBMP. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had conducted city rounds a few days ago, reviewed the measures taken by the corporation in pre-monsoon. This decision was taken on his direction. As per the CM’s orders, a committee has been formed at the zonal level headed by BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath to close the potholes as soon as possible. It consists of mobile ACP of each zone.

There are about 12.878 km long roads under the corporation. Out of these roads, 1,344.84 km long roads are considered as arterial and sub-arterial roads. The Chief Commissioner said that the remaining 11533.16 km of roads will be developed at the zonal level. Speaking to the media, the Chief Commissioner said that the corporation has already closed 1,500 potholes within a week and will soon close 4,500 potholes across the city.

Except for RR Nagar and Dasarahalli zone, where potholes will be closed by May 31, the deadline has been extended to June 4 as both RR Nagar and Dasarahalli together have more than 1,200 potholes. He said that through the new mobile app to be launched on June 6, information and feedback will be obtained from the traffic police and BBMP marshals to identify the potholes and solve the problem during the monsoon season.

Also, 1,400 km long road will be designed using artificial intelligence. Officers are being trained. Girinath said that the vehicles fitted with cameras will ply on these roads and based on the report and feedback of the officers and BBMP marshals, the corporation will investigate the problem.
