Bengaluru: Cubban Park Walkers Association protested for the third time against the construction of a 10-storey building in the Cubbon Park premises.

The Karnataka government has faced significant opposition from the public and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its plans to construct a High Court building in Cubbon Park, a green area in the heart of Bengaluru.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has recently revived the earlier plan of constructing a High Court building inside the park, and the walkers’ association has staged a series of protests against the proposed construction at Cubbon Park. Today’s protest is the third protest.

Recently the members of Cubbon Park Walkers Association staged a silent protest demanding the official withdrawal of the decision to construct the High Court building. They had collected wall panels in the state central library. S. Umesh Kumar, president of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, expressed his opposition to the government’s plan and expressed concern about encroachment of the park space and increase in traffic, which is already a burden on the city.

Similarly, hundreds of Bangaloreans gathered in the park and expressed their disapproval of the Karnataka government’s decision. The protestors argued that constructing a 10-storey building inside the park would not only reduce its greenery but also disturb the wildlife that depend on the greenery.
